WIPS

Web interactions per second (WIPS) is a popular measurement unit to estimate the server load. Ultrastudio.org counts downloading all relevant images, applet .jar, css stylesheet and JavaScript as part of the single web interaction. For administrators, WIPS server load is shown before w next to the visit counter. This value is estimated from the last 60 visits (how much time it took to collect them). To make the output more smooth, it is merged with the previous value using the method of of running average.

WIPS load indicator shows all load, counting various web bots.

As one WIPS is quite a big unit (one visit per second), the shown value is multiplied by 1000, representing milliWIPS ("1" means that there is one interaction per 1000 seconds). The server has been tested and shows acceptable performance for the loads up till about 7000 milliWIPS (7 full interactions per second) with multiple bots randomly crawling the site in all directions on separate threads. So 7000 or about must appear for us to conclude that the server must be upgraded.
